10NR27 - MRF News Release - Congress Expresses Concern with Federal Motorcycle Roadside Checkpoint Grant Program

Below is a summary of the call to action put out by the MRF yesterday regarding motorcycle check points.  This action is huge for us in and around the Omaha area and anyone that rides through it since we have been subject to these check points for the last several years.  I would encourage you to read the letter linked below in the article so you can get the true flavor of what is taking place.

Immediately below I have attached a link that will take you to Congressman Terry’s comment email.  Lee Terry is the United States Congressman representing legislative district 2 which includes the 5 counties in and around Omaha.   I think it would be time well spent to drop the Congressman a thank you for taking a stand and looking into this matter for us.

 Please read on.

Scott Lucey

 https://leeterryforms.house.gov/Contact_Form.shtml

US Representatives call for the suspension of Federally funded motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints. US Representative James Sensenbrenner (WI) took the lead on a letter to Ray LaHood, Secretary of the United States Department of Transportation, asking him to address the benefits of motorcycle only checkpoints.  As previously announced by the MRF, LaHood’s DOT recently asked for applications from law enforcement agencies to conduct federally funded motorcycle-only roadside checkpoints.

The letter goes on to encourage Mr. LaHood to suspend funding for National Highway Traffic Safety Administrator David Strickland's program until the questions are answered. Sensenbrenner was joined on the letter by Representatives; Petri (WI), Jones (NC), Schock (IL), Lanborn (IA), McCotter (MI), Ryan (WI), Rehberg (MT), Terry (NE), Paul (TX), and Wilson (SC).  Of note are Shock and Wilson who have respectively key noted Motorcycle Riders Foundation Meeting of Minds and Beast of the East this year.

The MRF would like to thank all of those who heeded the call to gather support for this important matter. Should you be fortunate enough to have one of these outstanding Members of Congress that signed onto the letter, the MRF encourages you to contact them and thank them. Ralph Bell of ABATE of SC had this to say to his Member of Congress, Joe Wilson: "I not only appreciate your signing on this letter but applaud your no nonsense understanding of what Freedom is. This grant is definitely against all of our Freedoms and discriminates against us because of what we ride. Thanks again for your support."

The letter asks that Ray LaHood, Secretary of the United States Department of Transportation, address the benefits of motorcycle-only checkpoints by October 13th.  The letter goes on to encourage Mr. LaHood to suspend funding for National Highway Traffic Safety Administrator Strickland;s program.

Read the letter here.

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation will keep you updated on this issue.

If so, please let me know and I'll set it up with Chad's campaign manger. Listing of the upcoming parades that Mr. Louderback will be in:

Apple Jack Festival - Nebraska City - Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 1pm.  CANCELLED Mr. Louderback will not be marching in this parade

Plattsmouth Fall Festival (formerly known as the Kass Kounty King Korn Karnival) - Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 5:30 pm.  start lining up around 5 pm...meet at the post office!

District's 6 & 11 folks showed up to support Nate Louderback at the Plattsmouth parade!

It was a great night for a parade.  The streets of Plattsmouth were lined with local folks celebrating the Fall Harvest Festival AKA the Korn King Karnival.  It’s all about the corn and the only place there wasn’t corn was in the fuel tanks of some ABATE riders helping out Senate hopeful Nate Louderback.  About a dozen ABATE folks from district 6 and 11 showed to march or ride with the candidate as well as the offensive line for the Pittsburg Steelers.  Not really but I think they must play for Plattsmouth and they sure grow um big there.  End to end we took up about a city block holding up signs, handing out candy and flyers, and rumbling pipes.  Mr. Louderback was thrilled with the show of support and pledged yet again to assist us if he gets in to office.  I know his opposition who was also in the parade took notice when we all line up in the staging area.  We had a legion and he had a hand full of people and a mini van.

There are events like this all over for candidates we support and it’s a great time of year to get out and participate.  The people we support will realize we are for real and it also resonates with the candidates that don’t support us.

A big thanks to Connie and Jimmy Wray for getting the word out about the event and to the folks from ABATE D6 that spent their Saturday evening helping.

CALL TO ACTION - DISTRICTS 6 & 11 - AND FOR ANY OTHER DISTRICTS THAT WANT TO HELP SHOW SUPPORT!

***CASS COUNTY FAIR - WEEPING WATER,  NE  -  PARADE STARTS AT 6 PM - WE WILL MEET AT 5:30 PM.  INFORMATION AT THIS TIME IS THAT THE PARADE IS ON A GRAVEL ROAD***

The parades are really fun!  Come on out and see for yourself!  Let's show everyone that ABATE is out in force, supporting those candidates who support us!

District 11 members, along with Jodie Powers, D2, showed up to march in the parade and show support for Mr. Louderback.

Where were YOU???

Mr. Louderback supports our cause of freedom of the road - the least we can do is show him support in trying to get him elected!!!  I certainly hope that more of you will find the time to be there in September at the Plattsmouth parade.

*** FOR THOSE AVAILABLE - SARPY COUNTY PARADE, SPRINGFIELD, NE - MEET AT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AT 9:30 AM - MARCH OR RIDE IN THE PARADE WITH MR. LOUDERBACK!!***

District 11 with Nate Louderback - Sarpy County Fair parade - August 7, 2010

District 11 went to Springfield this past Saturday to march in the parade with Mr. Louderback.

It was a really fun thing to participate in, and the real up-side to the event was that we got the chance to talk with Mr. Louderback on a more personal basis, giving us a chance to get to know him better, and for him to get to know us as ABATE members better as well.

We also got to visit with several of the other candidates that were marching in the parade.  Jim Smith & Teresa Whitehead were there, as well as Mark Stoj, who is running for the State Treasurer position.  Both Smith and Stoj said they support ABATE, while Whitehead would only say that she has several friends who are telling her she needs to be on our side in getting the helmet bill repealed.

Mr. Pankonin was also marching in the parade ..... he snubbed us..... no surprise there!

I have received a "thank you for being there" email from Mr. Louderback this morning, along with information on the Cass County parade that will be in Weeping Water on August 14th, at 6 pm.  District 11 members are planning on being there to show him our support - will you?  More information on this parade, and on others, will be on the state web site as soon as Connie gets all the information.

District 11 is putting out a challenge to all other districts - How many of your members can we get to show up and march in these parades with Mr. Louderback???  Or any other candidate in your area?   We need to show them that ABATE supports them!!  What better (and easy!)way to do so then giving up an hour of time to march in a parade with them?  Come on folks!!!!  Let's show them....and everyone out there that will see us in the parades with them....that ABATE supports those that supports us!

 Jimmy Wray

ps....if anyone has more information on parades, etc., the candidates in their area are participating in, get the info to Connie so she can get it on the web!  And if you get pictures - send them along as well!

emails from Mr. Louderback that we have received since the parade

August 8, 2010

Ok…

 1)      Please find a copy of the pictures from the parade.

2)      Next week is the Cass County Fair, Weeping Water Ne. The parade is at 6 p.m. and I’d suggest walking in this one (if it is in the place I’m thinking of, it is a gravel road). I was going to have everyone meet up at 5:30 p.m.

http://casscountyfair.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2&Itemid=2  This is the website with the location. You will probably be able to find it better than if I tried to do it for you.

Once again, THANK YOU for coming out. I know it was a long drive and it was hot weather. I appreciate your support and I hope to see you all next week!

CALL TO ACTION FOR DISTRICTS 6 & 11 WHICH INCLUDES LD2 -July 23, 2010

Scott received the following email from Nate Louderback, asking for riders to join him in some upcoming parades.

The primaries are over and now it is time to start working towards the election in November.  I think I had a decent showing in the primary given the challenges I need to overcome, and I am going to put in a lot of hard work making November competitive!

There are parades (Sarpy County Fair, Cass County Fair, Plattsmouth Fall Festival, Neb City Apple Jack Festival) coming up and I was wondering if you would put the word out that I'd be honored to have ABATE Riders join me in the parades.

You can either send the messages to them or they can contact me directly using my website.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do for your group.

Ride safe!

Below is Nate's response to Scott's inquiry on the dates and times for these events

The first two parades are the Sarpy County Fair (August 7th at 10 am) in Springfield and the Cass County Fair (August 14th at 6 pm)

I'd like to thank you for all your help!  It would help me out if each of you could go to www.louderbackforlegislature.com and fill out the volunteer forms.  It will be easier for our new volunteer coordinator (who should be announced in two weeks) to keep everyone up to date.

Until then, anyone who wants to come out and can, email me so I know how many people to expect.

Thank you all!
