Candidate Letter and Questionnaire

(The following was sent out to all the candidates on June 7th who made it through the May 8, 2006 Primary election to be on the November General Election Ballot.)

Dear Nebraska Legislative Candidate:

     ABATE of Nebraska, would like to take this opportunity to applaud your decision to seek public office. We realize the commitment of resources needed to accomplish such a goal, and would like to offer you an opportunity to express your views on issues affecting motorcyclists in Nebraska.

     We would ask that you please take the time to answer this questionnaire by circling FAVOR or OPPOSE on the questions on the following pages, make any desired comments and return them as soon as possible so that we may inform our membership and assist them in the voting decisions they will make in the upcoming election.

     This is an exciting time of the year and we wish you the very best of luck in your campaign.

2006 ABATE of Nebraska Legislative Questionnaire

  1. Do you favor or oppose efforts in Nebraska to mandate helmet usage by motorcyclists?

  1. In the past, state legislation has been influenced by federal mandates that include incentives and/or penalties that force the states to “tow the line”.

3.      Motorcycle rider education providers in Nebraska are facing increased demands and costs.  ABATE of Nebraska feels that it may be necessary to increase the level of funding in the Rider Education fund.  It is currently funded by $1.00 per year surcharge on the motorcycle endorsement of the motorcycle operator’s driver’s license.  Would you favor or oppose an effort to find an acceptable way to raise monies for this fund to support motorcycle safety and awareness in Nebraska ?

4.      Would you favor or oppose legislation which would include motorcyclist in those interests which can not be discriminated against by federal, state, business or private entities (including insurance companies), if motorcyclists activities are lawful?
